Finer wing quills than crow quills, the grey scalp hackles are excellent for spider patterns or soft long head hackles on variants of traditional palmered flies such as the Zulu.
The blue feathers of the Jay wing are a must when tying flies such as the Invicta they are also a widely used item in many traditional Irish and Scottish patterns too.
